OKPIH - Operation Keep Pets In Home

What is OKPIH?

We launched OKPIH in January 2022 in an effort to help pet owners retain their pets despite the challenges that Covid-19 and life in general has brought. We understand that people fall on hard times and usually the first thing to go is their pets. Our shelters are FULL and cannot keep up, so we want to help people retain their pets instead of having to make the hard decision to surrender them. We also want to help make it easier for lost dogs to be reunited as easily as possible to help alleviate the workload of animal control.

• We offer free dog and cat food to the residents of the Kern River Valley
• We offer collars and personalized dog tags to the residents of the Kern River Valley
• We offer no/low cost spay/neuter, vaccinations and microchipping to the residents of the Kern River Valley
• We offer low cost training for dogs with behavioral issues to the residents of the Kern River Valley

To date (5-8-25) we have given out over 100,000 lbs of dog and cat food and completed collars and tags for over 1,000 dogs. Funded Spay & Neuter Clinics in the Kern River Valley which has provided surgery for almost 700 dogs and cats.

How is it funded?

We have been blessed to receive large donations of dog and cat food from manufacturers and distributors by the pallets.
We also purchased a tag engraving machine and tags through fundraising.
Most of the collars have been donated and the rest have been purchased by us through fundraising.
Through private donations and grants we will be bringing spay and neuter services to the KRV.

How can I Help?

Each collar and tag costs about $6 each
You can donate any amount through our website, Venmo, cash or check and designate it for OKPIH.

Each spay & neuter clinic costs $9000 - $18,000 and will provide surgeries for 40-110 dogs & cats.

Each training session is $50, your donation would offer a free scholarship to a pet parent in need.
